Reflecting on Our Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Workshop – A Step Toward a Better Future

On Saturday, April 5, 2025, we had the pleasure of hosting an engaging and insightful Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Workshop for 120 bright young minds from Primary 5 to 6. The session was designed to introduce students to the global importance of the SDGs help them understand how different stakeholders are interconnected, and inspire them to take action in their daily lives.

Understanding the SDGs – A Global Mission

The workshop began with a brief introduction to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, established by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all by 2030. Students learned how these goals address critical global challenges—from*climate action and clean energy to quality education and gender equality—and why every individual, including young students, plays a crucial role in achieving them.

Experiential Learning Through the 2030 SDG Game

The highlight of the workshop was the interactive 2030 SDG Game, where students worked in teams to simulate real-world decision-making. Through two exciting rounds of gameplay, they experienced firsthand how choices made by different groups—governments, businesses, and citizens—affect global sustainability.

After each round, teams shared their reflections, discussing what worked, what didn’t, and how they could improve. This exercise helped them grasp the importance of teamwork, negotiation, and prioritization in solving global challenges.

Thoughtful Debriefing & Personal Commitments

The debriefing session encouraged deeper thinking with three key discussion questions:

1. What did you learn from the game?

2. Which SDG do you think is the most important, and why?

3. How can we take action in our daily lives?

Students shared inspiring perspectives, with many recognizing that small actions—like reducing waste, supporting fair trade, or promoting inclusivity—can create big changes.

To wrap up, each student completed a worksheet, selecting one SDG they felt most passionate about and writing down one personal action they could take to contribute. From pledging to save water to promising to spread awareness about equality, their commitments showed a strong sense of responsibility toward a sustainable future.

A Hopeful Ending

The workshop concluded with a powerful reminder: Sustainability starts with awareness, grows with education, and thrives with action. We were thrilled to see so many young students eager to make a difference, proving that the next generation is ready to lead the way in achieving the SDGs.

A huge thank you to all the student helpers, teachers, and facilitators who made this event a success! Let’s continue working together—one small step at a time—toward a fairer, greener, and more sustainable world.
